The Drakensberg Mountains, also known as the Quathlamba Mountain Range, run parallel to the southeastern coast of South Africa. The range extends for about 700 miles, from the province of Mpumalanga to the province of Eastern Cape, and forms the eastern boundary of Lesotho and the province of the Free State. It is the highest landmass of the eastern section of the Great Escarpment. Among its peaks are Thabana Ntlenyana (11,424 feet above sea level, the highest in southern Africa) and Mont-aux-Sources (10,822 feet) near which the scenic Royal Natal National Park is located. These mountains provide a great place for outdoor enthusiasts to pursue hiking, climbing and camping.
