One of the largest game parks in South Africa, the Hluhluwe - Umfolozi Park comprises a wide variety of bird and animal life. Famous for saving the white rhino from extinction, it now boasts the largest rhino population in Africa. Both white and black rhino are endemic to this area. In addition to the 'big five'- elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo and rhino - the elusive cheetah, wild dog and nyala inhabit the park. These animals offer visitors an excellent all-around game viewing experience. This sizeable area is comprised of three different reserves: Hluhluwe, Umfolozi, (two of Africa's oldest game reserves, both founded in 1895) and the linking Corridor Reserve (proclaimed in 1989).
