South Africa: Tsitsikama National Park

Park Overview

Tsitsikama National Park, located midway between Plettenberg Bay and Port Elizabeth, is one of the highlights of the Garden Route. This park is home to the famous Storm's River Mouth, a massive estuary that runs along the coastline. This is where the Otter Trail begins (a beautiful five-day hike deep into the park). The Park is blanketed by a dense rainforest. The most common tree species here is the outeniqua yellowood, followed by the stinkwood, cape blackwood, white pear, and candlewood. In the Park itself, over 220 different bird species have been recorded. The Tauraco corythaix, or " Korr Korr Korr" is one of the most beautiful and most spotted birds in the area. Whether on a formal hike or leisurely stroll, visitors to Tsitsikama will be immersed in South African bio-diversity.
