What we love about South Africa
Wildlife overload—South Africa has built one of the finest reputations for incredible wildlife viewing. Large game such as rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo, and giraffe thrive in so many environments and skilled guides reveal small wonders like chameleons, tortoise, and ant lion. Birders will delight in the diversity of species from the Sabi Sand, to the coastal reserves in KwaZulu Natal, the malaria-free Madikwe Reserve, or on the Cape.
All aboard!—Step back in time to the age of rail travel, when a glamorous journey was more important than the destination. Ride the rails through South Africa and beyond on an elegant train with Rovos Rail or the Blue Train. Both lines capture the nostalgia of slow travel, where time stops and the art of small talk is essential. Decadent meals, fine wines, breathtaking landscapes and meaningful excursions are all waiting for you onboard. Journeys of a few days or a few weeks are available.
Pound the pavement—Nothing gives you more insight into a place than spending some time meandering about on foot. In both Cape Town and Johannesburg, uncover the secrets of whatever subject interests you with walking tours led by local experts. Love architecture? Care about social justice? Want to eat your way through the city or are curious about street art? We connect you with specialists who share their perspectives and offbeat locales in their hometowns.
