MZ Ponta Mamoli - white-pearl

Ponta Mamoli

Nestled in lush coastal forest in the far south of Mozambique, Ponta Mamoli undoubtedly ranks as one of the country’s most wildly beautiful beach destinations. The tall forested dunes and isolated setting are reminiscent of South Africa’s iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site situated only 10km to the south. Ponta Mamoli lies within easy driving distance of Ponta do Ouro, a popular resort village famed for its diving, snorkeling and deep-sea fishing, and the wildlife-rich Maputo Special Reserve.

Discover Ponta Mamoli

Divers and snorkelers have the choice of more than 20 sites, some better suited for seeking larger fish such as sharks and rays, others more notable for their diversity of colorful reef fish. The main base for snorkeling, diving and fishing excursions is Ponta do Ouro, which also has a good selection of shops, restaurants, banking amenities, and so on.

The forest dunes of Ponta Mamoli support a rich birdlife, as well as mammals such as blue monkey, vervet monkey and red duiker.

For a terrestrial safari, the 300-square-mile Maputo Special Reserve is home to around 400 elephants, as well as hippo, zebra, greater kudu, waterbuck, impala, nyala and common reedbuck. Marine turtles nest on the reserve’s beaches, crocodiles lurk in the lakes, and a bird checklist of 350 species includes specials such as palmnut vulture, rosy-breasted longclaw and green-throated twinspot.
